How to Answer “Tell Me About Yourself”
"Tell me about yourself."
So simple and yet so complex.
This is one of the most feared interview questions - but it doesn't have to be! Here's what your interviewer is REALLY asking: "Tell me about the value you would bring to our organization."
Unfortunately, most job candidates simply recite their resume and job history and completely miss the opportunity to demonstrate why they are uniquely qualified to excel in this specific role.
Reframe your response to focus on how the professional skills and accomplishments you bring to the table will enable you to be successful in this specific position. Share briefly about your current role, what led you there, and where you see yourself in the future.
Demonstrate your enthusiasm for this specific position and organization. Make it clear that you don't want just any job, you want THIS job by mentioning one or two aspects of the position that excite you.
Keep it concise. Stay under 2 minutes or you'll lose their attention.
Practice out loud! Rehearse your key points so you don't skip a beat - but keep your tone natural and conversational. Reach out to connect with me for a mock interview to improve your response to dozens of interview questions.
